A Study Of Surgical Choice Of Laparoscopic Vs Robotic Cholecystectomy

About this study

This study aims to provide qualitative evidence on the factors influencing the choice between laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and robotic cholecystectomy (RC) among patients. The primary objective of this study is to identify key factors that influence patients’ choice between LC and RC through qualitative interviews.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults aged ≥ 18 years who underwent LC or RC for benign condition

  • Underwent elective LC or RC at one of the participating hospitals within 1 to 6 months prior to the interview.

  • Ability to provide informed consent.

  • Proficient in English to ensure effective communication during interviews.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who underwent emergency (acute) surgery or surgery for malignant indications.

  • Cholecystectomies with significant complications or readmissions / reinterventions.

  • Individuals with cognitive impairments or psychological conditions that preclude meaningful participation.

  • Language barriers that prevent effective participation without the availability of translation services.
