Validation Assessment of Body Composition Measurement Scales

About this study

The pupose of this study is to determine whether the scales marketed to the consumer are as accurate as the DEXA and InBody 970® for obtaining body composition measures. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have a Body Mass Index ≥ 18.5 kg/m2 and < 40 kg/m^2 as confirmed by InBody measurement.
  • Weigh less than 320 lbs (weight limitation for some of the home scales).
  • Have understood and signed study informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Have a pacemaker, defibrillator, artificial lung, artificial heart, electrocardiograph, or nerve simulator.
  • People with artificial limbs or limited mobility.
  • People having radioactive iodine thyroid treatment.
  • People who have had a nuclear medicine study or a barium X-ray within the last 5 days.
  • People with any amounts of metal in their bodies (including arthroplasty) outside of dental work.
  • Self-reported current pregnancy.
  • Individuals who have not signed consent.
  • Subject has a known history or any condition or factor judged by the investigator to preclude participation in the study or which might hinder adherence.
