A Study Of Fatty Infiltration Of The Opponens Pollicis Muscle And Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthritis

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify pro-inflammatory factors (cytokines or SASP) in cells obtained from OP FI and OP muscle biopsies taken from patients undergoing CMC arthroplasty. To assess the responsiveness of cells obtained from OP FI and OP muscle biopsies to pro-inflammatory cytokines commonly found in synovial fluid or circulating blood of patients with OA.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • ≥ 18 years of age.

  • Thumb OA is a condition of adulthood so children will not be included. The condition affects men and women, and both sexes will be recruited. Since all patients will be recruited in the context of a scheduled surgery, and the biopsy poses no special risks to health, women of childbearing age wil be recruited without the need for pregnancy testing not otherwise required for the primary surgical procedure.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • ≤ 18 years of age.

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.

Eligibility last updated 6/06/2025. Questions regarding updates should be directed to the study team contact.
