About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify the optimal diagnostic approach for cephalosporin-allergic patients while discovering the cellular and molecular mechanism of cephalosporin allergy through conducting a high-risk clinical trial.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age 18-70 years old.
  • Reaction history consistent with a potential immediate hypersensitivity reaction* to cefazolin, ceftriaxone, cefepime, ceftazidime, cephalexin, cefaclor, cefpodoxime, cefuroxime, cefadroxil, cefprozil, cefdinir, and/or cefixime.
  • English speaking or non-English speaking with translation services available.

Exclusion Criteria:

  •  Severe concomitant medical condition,** severe cognitive impairment, prison or jail inmates, pregnant women.
  • Incident reaction required CPR.
  • Active infection or antibiotic treatment.
  • Treatment with antihistamines or corticosteroids within 7 days.
  • Treatment with omalizumab within 60 days.
  • Significant immunosuppression.
  • Treatment with a beta-blocker or ACE inhibitor within 7 days.
  • Severe reaction to 2 or more cephalosporin antibiotics.
  • Chronic spontaneous urticaria or chronic angioedema.
  • Abnormal vital signs or unstable physical exam at Visit 1
