About this study

The purpose of this study is to characterize the motor function deficits specific to muscle weakness, intra and interlimb coordination, and the presence, or absence of spasticity.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Congenital diagnosis of myelomeningocele (MMC)
  • Ages 5-18
  • Able to follow verbal commands or instructions.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Severe cognitive deficits demonstrating inability to communicate needs
  • Gaping, weeping, or unhealed open wounds
  • Unhealed fractures on load bearing bones
  • History of implanted devices at the stimulation location
  • Ongoing infections (currently being treated or are symptomatic)
  • Any illness or condition which, based on the research team’s assessment, will compromise the patient’s ability to comply with the protocol, patient safety, or the validity of the data collected during this study.
