Sleep-disordered Breathing in Infants With Myelomeningocele

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the risk for sleep-disordered breathing in infants with myelomeningocele (a severe form of spina bifida) differs among those who underwent fetal vs. postnatal surgery, and to examine the link between sleep-disordered breathing and neurodevelopment.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Neonates with myelomeningocele who are cared for at a study center NICU are eligible to participate after myelomeningocele repair.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Born at < 30 weeks gestation.
  • Congenital anomalies that would predispose to sleep-disordered breathing (e.g., micrognathia).
  • Confirmed or suspected genetic syndromes that alter developmental outcomes.
