The Cognitive Performance Cost of Increased Work of Breathing


About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the work of breathing impacts on cognitive performance.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Physically active
  • Age 25-50 years

Exclusion Criteria:

  • History of respiratory, cardiovascular, or metabolic disease, anemia (<12 g/dL for males, <11 g/dL for females), migraines, or are pregnant
  • Subjects will not be allowed to participate if they currently smoke or have had a significant history of smoking (>5 pack yrs) 
  • Have a body mass index of ≥30 kg·m-²
