Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD):Utility of Echocardiography including Contrast and Strain Imaging


About this study

The purpose of this study is to perform and analyze standard transthoracic echocardiography with contrast and strain imaging in 80 consecutive patients seen in the Mayo Clinic Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) Clinic and interpret any prior pre- or post-SCAD echocardiogram studies for comparison.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Clinical diagnosis (by history and diagnostic angiographic features) of spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD).
  • As we have collected data, we have noted abnormalities that may be artefactual versus meaningful in those with history of SCAD. Therefore, this revised protocol will include the addition of a control group to better understand the appearance of contrast perfusion in normal subjects. 

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients with any clinically unstable cardiac condition (within 24 hours of) Lumason administration
  • Known or suspected right-to-left, bi-directional,or transient right-to-left cardiac shunts
  • History of hypersensitivity reactions to sulfurhexafluoride lipid microsphere components or to any of the inactive ingredients in Lumason
  • Lack of visualization of the left ventricle at baseline study
  • Pregnancy or lactation.
