Graduation and certification
Upon successful completion of your surgical technology program, you will graduate from your college, receiving your Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
You will obtain voluntary professional certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting by graduating from a CAAHEP-accredited program and passing a national certification examination. You then may use the designation Certified Surgical Technologist, or C.S.T.
Continuing education or re-examination is required to maintain certification, which must be renewed every four years.
Rotations take place on weekdays, with specific hours determined by the affiliated institution.
Each year, Mayo Clinic provides surgical training experiences for up to 25 students from the Surgical Technology Program at Rochester Community and Technical College. Your surgical training rotation provides a comprehensive educational experience with extensive one-on-one instruction.
