Program description

Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, offers diverse and challenging clinical experiences to nurse practitioner students enrolled in a Mayo Clinic-affiliated graduate-level program.

The clinical rotations are facilitated by Mayo Clinic physicians or professional nurse practitioner staff and provide nurse practitioner students opportunities to work alongside other professionals in a multidisciplinary health care environment.

Students observe and experience the delivery of patient care in a comprehensive health care center that offers:

Note: If you are a nurse enrolled in a program and would like to complete your clinical rotations at Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida, it is imperative that you contact the clinical coordinator at your school to express interest in Mayo Clinic. The clinical coordinator will then communicate directly with the program director for our Nurse Practitioner Clinical Rotation to determine if we are able to match your request with our availability.

To participate in Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences' Nurse Practitioner Clinical Rotation, you must be enrolled in a graduate-level program at one of the following affiliated academic institutions.

Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research that support the highest quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted in the Mayo Clinic Hospital and the interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.

The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.

Graduation and certification

When you successfully complete the criteria for the nurse practitioner course work at your affiliated school, you are eligible to apply to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners national certification examination in your specialty practice area.


The hours for your clinical rotation will match your preceptor's schedule. Once your clinical rotation is finalized, you will receive information on who your preceptor is and can discuss setting up your clinical schedule with him or her.

Class size

Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences has limited space available for the Nurse Practitioner Clinical Rotation. This ensures you receive a comprehensive educational experience with one of our experienced clinicians.
