Once you have experienced the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, you may be interested in obtaining your graduate degree at Mayo Clinic. If so, check out Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences through a curriculum that emphasizes the inter-relatedness of the traditional basic science disciplines. As a Mayo graduate student, you can select from the following areas of specialization for your Ph.D. training:
Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences provides stipends and full-tuition scholarships for all Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. students. This means you have exceptional flexibility in choosing research mentors. And, because Mayo's core research facilities are shared among investigators, you have access to advanced technology no matter where your interests take you.
Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine administer our Ph.D. and M.D. degree programs, respectively. They jointly offer a M.D.-Ph.D. Program for students who are interested in careers as clinician-investigators.
Research at Mayo Clinic
More than 900 biomedical scientists and physicians are engaged in ongoing research throughout Mayo Clinic. As members of Mayo Clinic's basic science and clinical departments, they conduct research and often maintain a clinical practice in addition to teaching. This means you'll learn from people who are active practitioners in your field of study — and who understand the challenges you'll face. As a student of Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, you have ready access to these individuals as well as hundreds of additional physicians and other medical professionals. Many are leaders in their fields. Approximately 1,100 residents and 300 research fellows also are part of Mayo's academic community.
Mayo Clinic is internationally recognized for investigative programs in several areas of basic science and clinical research. An annual budget of nearly $296 million supports these efforts. Our research is distinguished by highly collaborative interactions among investigators studying basic science and those focused on research applications to clinical problems.
Faculty research interests can be found on other pages within this site which describe our Ph.D. Programs. Research at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville focuses on various aspects of Alzheimer's disease and its treatment. At Mayo Clinic Arizona, scientists are studying aspects of cellular communication and development using molecular genetic, transgenic and cell biology techniques. All three campuses share resources and information through a satellite video communications network.
