Designing a Simulation Center Course

 

Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide the opportunity for participants to gain knowledge and skill in planning, designing, building, and maintaining a simulation center.

Note: This course does not include scenario and/or curriculum building.

Intended Audience

The course is designed for those involved in the planning, designing, and building of a simulation center. The course will be limited to 42 participants.

Course Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Prepare a simulation business and financial plan.
  • Discuss how to get institutional buy-in for building a simulation center.
  • Discuss ongoing financial considerations for maintaining a simulation center.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities.
  • Determine resources necessary for planning and designing a simulation center.
  • Identify what to take into account when deciding on an audiovisual system.
  • Determine a process for an equipment review/approval process.
  • Recognize processes and infrastructure to support the simulation center and ongoing simulation education.
  • Discuss staffing models for simulation education.

Date and Location

From the Ground Up: Simulation Center Building Blocks will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008, in the Mayo Multidisciplinary Simulation Center. The Center is located on the main floor of the Stabile Building located at 150 Third Street SW, Rochester, Minnesota. It is easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connects Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.

Registration: Deadline February 22, 2008:

To register, please send an email to the Mayo Multidisciplinary Simulation Center. Please include the following information:

  • Name, position, and title
  • Contact information (institution, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address)
  • What stage in the process of building a simulation center is your institution?
  • A 100-200 word bio sketch for yourself
  • List the three most important questions you have about planning, designing, and building a simulation center.
  • Email your registration information

The registration fee for the one-day course will be $650 per attendee, payable by check to Mayo Foundation. We are unable to process purchase orders or credit cards.

Travel

Rochester, Minnesota, is serviced by a modern international airport with multiple flights daily from Chicago, Minneapolis, or Detroit via American or Northwest Airlines. Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi cab and shuttle service. The airport is located approximately 10 driving miles from the Mayo Clinic complex.

Lodging is available by contacting the hotels listed below. These hotels are connected by skyway and pedestrian subway to conference facilities, downtown shops, and restaurants.
