Research in Dr. Westendorf's lab at Mayo Clinic is revealing novel insights into numerous musculoskeletal diseases. The lab's ultimate goal is to increase knowledge that leads to the rational design of novel therapeutics for such diseases as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, craniosynostosis, heterotopic ossification, arthrogryposis and bone cancers.
The Skeletal Development and Regeneration Research Lab studies the molecular and epigenetic basis for skeletal formation, bone and cartilage regeneration, and primary and metastatic bone tumors.
Dr. Westendorf's research activities focus on protein phosphatase Phlpp1 in cartilage development and osteoarthritis, histone deacetylases in bone diseases, Wnt signaling in osteoblast and osteoclast functions, and chromosomal translocations and cancer.
Dr. Westendorf has published extensive research on human epigenetic regulators, histone deacetylase 3, bone development, Wnt signaling, sarcoma, osteoclasts and other skeletal development research.
Contact Dr. Westendorf about research projects or for information about training, Mayo Clinic SURF fellowships and careers in the Skeletal Development and Regeneration Research Lab.
