BTICs are a key element of research in the Neurogenesis and Brain Tumor Lab. BTICs are considered the cells of origin and recurrence of glioblastomas. They present many features similar to noncancerous stem cells, such as their ability to grow as spheres and give rise to multiple cell lineages (shown above). However, they also possess the ability to initiate tumor formation.
The Neurogenesis and Brain Tumors Lab of Hugo Guerrero Cazares, M.D., Ph.D., studies the interaction of the neurogenic niche and glioblastoma and the migration of neural progenitor cells.
The lab studies the role of the neurogenic niche in the malignancy of glioblastoma and develops new ways to use human tissue to study human cancer cell invasion.
The Neurogenesis and Brain Tumors Laboratory has created unique images and videos of glioblastoma cell migration and neural progenitor cell migration.
Keep up to date with published research from Dr. Guerrero Cazares' lab on neurogenesis, the neurogenic niche, neural progenitor cell migration, glioblastoma and more.
Contact Dr. Guerrero Cazares at Mayo Clinic for information about research projects or collaborations on neurogenesis and brain tumors.
