Administration and Operations

The administration and operations team provides veterinary and research technologist support for all four project teams in the Neural Engineering Lab and handles overall administrative and operational concerns such as hiring and logistics. The Administration and Operations team and the Research Technologist team report to April E. Horne, associate director of operations.

Meet the team

Research Technologist Team

  • Jill L. Anderson
    • Supervisor and Lab Manager
    • Jill Anderson is a certified veterinary technician who has worked at Mayo Clinic since 1997 and in the Neural Engineering Laboratory since 2012. She is responsible for first-level administrative management for lab member hiring, education and payroll, and is also involved in Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol development and animal care.
  • Bruce E. Knudsen, M.S.
    • Senior Research Technologist
    • Bruce Knudsen completed his Bachelor of Science in biology at Truman State University and his Master of Science in international agriculture at Northwest Missouri State University. He came to Mayo Clinic in 1999 from the University of Utah, where he worked as a veterinary technologist.
  • Jannifer H. Lee, M.S.
    • Senior Research Technologist
    • Jannifer Lee earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Brandeis University. Upon graduation, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Ann Graybiel at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she investigated the functional neuroanatomy of the basal ganglia in in vivo models. During this time, she completed her Master of Science in biological sciences at Harvard University, studying the progressive changes occurring in the striatum as a result of Huntington's disease in mouse models.

Jannifer joined the Neural Engineering Laboratory in August 2016 to study the dopaminergic system as it relates to neurological diseases and therapy. She plans to pursue her doctorate in the neurosciences.

  • Andrea L. McConico
    • Veterinary Technician
    • Andrea McConico earned her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with minors in biology and early childhood education at Gustavus Adolphus College. She also earned an Associate of Science degree in veterinary technology.

Andrea started out as a veterinary technician in an emergency veterinary practice. She has also worked in teaching and research at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in quality control microbiology in the drug and medical device industry before joining Mayo Clinic.

At Mayo Clinic, Andrea worked in molecular biology for eight years before joining the Neural Engineering Laboratory, where she works on large animal surgeries.

  • Jodi L. Silvernail
    • Animal Care Technician
    • Jodi Silvernail joined the Neural Engineering Lab in March 2016. She has a degree in small animal services from Kirkwood Community College and is completing a bachelor's degree in psychology from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. She is interested in deep brain stimulation and animal behavioral research studies.
  • Laurie J. Zoecklein
    • Senior Research Technologist
    • Laurie Zoecklein earned her Bachelor of Science in animal science at Michigan State University and her Master of Science in reproductive physiology at the University of Arkansas. Laurie has worked for Mayo for over 30 years as a research technologist in hematology, pharmacology and neuroregeneration laboratories. She joined the Neural Engineering Lab in March 2016.

Administrative Team

  • Samuel K. Rudolph
