Summary

My previous research interest was the prehospital care of head injured patients. Specifically looking at paramedic RSI and its effect on mortality. My research group additionally looked at GCS and its validity as a marker of severe head injury and the need for prehospital intubation. My current focus is on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). My research group known as the Save Hearts in Arizona Registry and Education(SHARE)Study Group in collaboration with the research group from the Sarver Heart Center in Tucson, AZ is evaluating an alternative form of CPR known as Cardiocerebral Resuscitation and its effect on mortality. We are also examining everthing from the merits of bystander CPR to the merits of post-resuscitation hypothermia and percutaneous intervention. Additionally, we are evaluating the potential benefits of a Cardiac Arrest Center model much like that used in trauma and stroke. We recently began an initiative to collect electronic waveform data to evaluate exactly what is happening during a resuscitation. At present, our data is based on what the provider reports that they performed rather than precisely what happened and when.
