Summary

My primary clinical interest is the care of children with congenital heart disease, with a particular focus on pediatric cardiomyopathy, pediatric heart transplantation, and pediatric vascular assist devices (VADs).

I have interest both in the clinical and echocardiographic evaluation of these patients, including fetal, transthoracic, and transesophageal echocardiography. Our multi-disciplinary practice at Mayo is ideal for these patients, providing optimum care in a world-renowned center for clinical care.

My research focus is on clinical outcomes in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, particularly patients with cardiomyopathies. I study the clinical follow-up of patients who have undergone pediatric heart transplantation as children.

These pediatric patients have undergone transplant for many different reasons, including hypoplastic left heart syndrome, complex congenital heart disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy, and a failing Fontan circulation.

I hope to use clinical research to find ways to reduce complications in heart transplant patients, and figure out methodologies with which to prolong lives of both the patient and the transplanted heart.

I also evaluate and diagnose pediatric patients with vascular malformations, working with David Driscoll, M.D., and Peter Gloviczki, M.D., world leaders in these types of lesions.
