Summary
Clinical research in cardiac pacing
Clinical research in cardiac pacing has been a part of Mayo Cardiology research efforts for many years. The current program continues to focus on clinically relevant issues. Given the large volume of pacemaker and ICD patients in our pacemaker clinic, there is ample material on which to formulate and complete outcome-based studies. In addition, a computerized database of all pacemaker patients gives relatively easy access to much of the information. Research efforts have been directed at investigation of new pulse generators, specific hemodynamic advantages of pacing in subsets of patients, effect of electromagnetic interference on pacemaker performance and survival studies on permanent pacing leads.
