The electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) research group performs large multicenter trials of ECT efficacy and methods to prevent relapse.
The group is part of the Consortium for Research in ECT (CORE), a federally-funded multisite research initiative. Mayo Clinic CORE researchers have been supported by National Institutes of Mental Health grants for more than 10 years.
- Shirlene Sampson, M.D., is investigating how to maintain remission of depression after a successful acute series of ECT.
- Maria I. Lapid, M.D., is exploring factors that impact the transition from inpatient to outpatient in ECT treatment.
