Mayo Clinic and the Center for Individualized Medicine have made a significant commitment to building a world-class, scalable biorepository infrastructure, now offered through Mayo Clinic Bioservices. Mayo Clinic Bioservices provides innovative biorepositories and state-of-the-art biospecimen processing and storage services.
Mayo Clinic Bioservices has two primary laboratories, the Biospecimens Accessioning and Processing Core and the Pathology Research Core.
The Biospecimens Accessioning and Processing Core provides biospecimen accessioning, processing, nucleic acid extraction, electronic biospecimen tracking, and storage and shipping services in a highly integrated core laboratory vital to basic, translational and epidemiological research. The Pathology Research Core offers histological and tissue-based services.
In addition to laboratory services, Mayo Clinic Bioservices also provides access to highly curated and annotated biospecimens from the Mayo Clinic Biobank. The Mayo Clinic Biobank is a unique collection of health information and biological samples derived from blood, with a goal of enrolling 50,000 participants by 2015 to support a wide array of health-related research studies.
Finally, Mayo Clinic Bioservices provides access to a number of analytic laboratory services, including sequencing, genotyping, expression, cytogenetics and proteomics, and to Mayo Clinic's Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-approved clinical laboratories through Mayo Medical Laboratories.
