A Study Of Factors Associated With Inappropriate Thyroid Ultrasound

About this study

The purpose of this study is to use surveys and interviews with clinicians from two healthcare systems, as well as patient and health system leader interviews, to understand factors across multiple levels that promote or inhibit iTUS.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age ≥18 years

  • At least one thyroid ultrasound (CPT 76536) recorded in the EHR in the prior 12 months

  • Able to speak English and provide informed consent

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Declined research authorization (where applicable)

  • Cognitive, sensory, or language barriers that preclude informed consent or participation

  • Prior diagnosis of thyroid cancer (to focus on screening and incidental-finding workflows)
