A Study Of Plaque Reduction In PICU Patients Following Oral Care Interventions By Dental Hygienists

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of dental hygienist-provided oral care interventions in reducing plaque accumulation among pediatric patients in the PICU and Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU, using the Ramfjord Plaque Index as an objective measure.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals aged 3 years and above, but not older than 18 years.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals younger than 3 years; individuals who are immunosuppressed and dental care is contraindicated; individuals with end-of-life care; and individuals who were not present in the room at the time of oral care assessment; patient/parent/family/nurse refusal for participation.
