About this study
The purpose of this study is to generate new knowledge concerning the epidemiological profile of traumatic brain injury (TBI) among Tribal communities in the upper Great Lakes region and understanding their lived experience with TBI.
The anticipated long-term outcome of the project is to establish a foundation of trust, respect, and knowledge to build sustainable community-based participatory research relationships between Mayo Clinic, Tribal communities, and Trauma Programs in the upper Great Lakes states. T
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- At least 18 years old.
- Affiliated with 34 Tribal and 3 Urban Health Programs in the 3 identified states of MI, MN, WI.
- Have sustained a medically attended TBI, be the family member or significant other of this person, or be a community member, Tribal leader, or local healthcare provider with interest or experience in the subject matter.
- Be able to participate in a group listening session - demonstrate physical, cognitive, communication, and behavioral skills conducive to participating with others in a group process for several hours at a time.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Non-English speaking (funding precludes interpreter services).
