About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate alterations in pulmonary vascular physiology and respiratory gas exchange at rest and during exercise (mimicking daily activities) in patients with single ventricle heart disease (SVHD) using novel noninvasive methods developed in our laboratory.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria: 

  • Patients with SVHD being treated at Mayo Clinic Rochester and 10 age-matched healthy individuals who are aged ≥18 years will be recruited.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Patients who are not able to perform mild exercise due to orthopedic limitations.

  • Patients who are pregnant.

  • Patients who are currently smoking.

  • Patients who are morbidly obese (body mass index > 38kg/m2).
