Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and Supervised Exercise in a Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program in the Treatment of Chronic Insomnia

About this study

The purpose of this trial is to examine the combined impact of 6-weeks supervised exercise and CBT-I on insomnia severity among patients with chronic insomnia.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Diagnosis of Chronic Insomnia
  • 18-70 years of age
  • Able to provide informed consent.
  • No medical contraindications to moderate-intensity exercise or resistance training.

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Less than 18 years old
  • Other Sleep Disorder (i.e., narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, untreated obstructive sleep apnea, REM sleep behavior disorder, hypersomnia)
  • Medical condition that is a contra-indication for exercised training
  • Previously received CBT-I
  • Major Cardiovascular event or intervention (e.g., stroke, myocardial infarct, heart failure, heart surgery, pacemaker, etc.).
  • Cancer treatment in the last 2 years
  • Pregnant or lactation
  • Epilepsy
  • Severe Mental Health Disorder
  • Individuals reporting over 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous exercise
  • Inability to complete study procedures or questionnaires due to cognitive or language barriers.
