Tab Title Description
Study type
ObservationalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.
- Interventional study (clinical trial) — studies new tests, treatments, drugs, surgical procedures or devices.

About this study
The purpose of this study is to assess changes in muscle thickness, body composition, lower body mechanics and physical activity following total knee arthroplasty.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- ≥ 35 and ≤ 75 years of age scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and prior history of osteoarthritis (OA).
Exclusion Criteria:
- Prior history of neurological disorders that affect their ability to walk or rise from a chair, cardiovascular problems that limit their ability to climb a flight of stairs or walk unassisted.
- Uncontrolled hypertension.
- History of cancer in the lower extremity.
- Rheumatoid arthritis.
- Thyroid disease.
- Hormone replacement therapy, and any other dysfunctions of the locomotor system that might influence performance during the sit-to-stand activity.
- Subjects with bilateral limb involvement will be allowed to participate in the parent study but will be excluded from this analysis if they had a prior arthroplasty surgery within the previous year; or plan to have an additional lower extremity arthroplasty.
Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.
