Imaging Analysis for Primary Mitochondrial Medicine
Overview
Tab Title Description
Study type
ObservationalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.
- Interventional study (clinical trial) — studies new tests, treatments, drugs, surgical procedures or devices.
- Medical records research — uses historical information collected from medical records of large groups of people to study how diseases progress and which treatments and surgeries work best.

About this study
The purpose of this study is to further the natural history knowledge about primary mitochondrial diseases through observational imaging techniques, and to assess for indicators of primary mitochondrial diseases through several methods including MRI imaging of the heart and muscles, and through scoring of residual movements from patient recorded videos showing basic home exercise.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Age 15-80 years old.
- Confirmed primary mitochondrial disorder.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Pregnant, breastfeeding.
- Severe cardiac disease.
- End-stage renal disease.
Exceptions:
- Allergy to gadolinium will be an exclusion from the cardiac MRI imaging only, the remainder of study actiivtites may still occur and will not be an automatic exclusion.
- Allergy to regadenoson will be an exclusion from the cardiac stress testing imaging only, the remainder of study activities may still occur and will not be an automatic exclusion.
