ObservationalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.

- Medical records research — uses historical information collected from medical records of large groups of people to study how diseases progress and which treatments and surgeries work best.

About this study
The purpose of this research study is to understand the views and experiences of African American women with a diagnosis or who support a family member with breast or ovarian cancer. We also want to know participant thoughts on genetic testing for cancer risk.
This is a qualitative interview study. Study participation involves talking on the phone or videoconference (e.g., Zoom) for about 1 hour with a researcher.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Biologically female.
- Non-Hispanic Black (NHB).
- Diagnosis of breast and/or ovarian cancer or family history of breast and ovarian cancer.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Under age of 18.
- Not biologically female.
- Ethnicity other than NHB.
- Has not been diagnosed with breast and/or ovarian cancer and does not have a family history breast and ovarian cancer.
