About this study
The primary aims of this study are to 1) evaluate the acceptability of implementing a novel transition program for adolescents with epilepsy; 2) evaluate the needs of patients and their families as they prepare for transition from pediatric to adult care; and 3) improve transition readiness and outcomes in youths with epilepsy.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Adolescents between the ages of 14 and 19 years of age.
- Existing or newly diagnosed epilepsy.
- Currently receiving continued care within the Mayo Clinic Pediatric Neurology Department.
- Participants must live within approximately 70 miles of the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Adolescents with a history of severe intellectual disability based on chart review and/or prior neuropsychological testing (e.g., nonverbal, non-ambulatory).
