Customized Workshops for Health Care Professionals

  • Core Workshop – The workshop provides the core topics essential to the understanding and treatment of tobacco dependence. Presenters typically would include one physician and one counselor. Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence: The chronic disease model, pharmacotherapy, essential components of the tobacco dependence consultation and an introduction to motivational interviewing.
  • Optional Workshop Topics – In addition to the core workshop, optional topics or expansion of core topics may be chosen. Workshops may be one full day or up to several days. One full day is six hours of presentation or interactive sessions with additional time for lunch and breaks. Presenters will be determined according to topics requested and/or if host requests a specific presenter(s). The 1-2 day workshop allows time for learner interaction, in-depth knowledge, applications and question and answer sessions.
  • Topic Presentation – 1 to 1.5 hours – Often presented as a Grand Rounds Presentation or a presentation as part of an existing conference. One physician or one counselor would present. This may be a stand-alone presentation or in addition to a core workshop.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) – This may be a stand-alone course or components may be added to a core workshop. The MI training varies from 1 hour (included in the core workshop component), 2 hour, 4 hour or one-day course. Presenters will be determined according to host request, audience and presenter availability.
