Global Tobacco Dependence Treatment Summit 2016

May 23-24, 2016

For 2016, the Nicotine Dependence Center annual conference will be expanded to include Global Bridges network members from around the world. The curriculum will address issues and trends in the international treatment field, delivered through keynote presentations, plenary sessions, and interactive workshops. Participants will learn to build culturally-relevant strategies for improved connections with patients, using behavioral support, pharmacotherapy, mobile technology and other tools.

This conference is designed for physicians and healthcare professionals working with tobacco-dependent patients. Physicians, tobacco treatment specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists, chemical dependency counselors, respiratory therapists, nurses, dental hygienists, community health workers, social workers and other allied health professionals will benefit from attending.

Topics include incorporating effective treatments into practice, developing comprehensive services to meet the needs of highly tobacco-dependent patients and integrating strategies and knowledge from around the world. There will be time for networking with faculty, Mayo Clinic staff and conference attendees.

A special session will address the impact of healthcare professional advocacy on international tobacco control. Global Bridges grantees from 23 countries will share their experiences in treating tobacco-dependent patients and developing training programs for other healthcare professionals.

The summit will be held on May, 23-24, 2016 with a special session for international grantees on May 22.
