Mitochondrial Disease Biobank Activities
2013 Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium
The Mitochondrial Disease Biobank sponsored the 2013 United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium, held in Newport Beach, Calif., in June. This year, the team provided special support to the round table workshop, "Understanding and Navigating through Your Test Results." Dr. Linda Hasadsri, M.D., Ph.D., the new Clinical Biochemical Genetics fellow at Mayo Clinic, served on the panel and presented a talk titled "From Biochemistry to Muscle Biopsies."
Members of the Mitochondrial Disease Biobank team also presented two posters at the symposium.
2012 MitoAction Energy Walk
For the third year in a row, the Mayo Clinic Mitochondrial Disease Biobank team sponsored the 2012 MitoAction Energy Walk and 5K, held in Boston, Mass., in Sept. Over 700 individuals participated, raising $143,280.
2012 Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium
For the third year in a row, the team attended the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium, held in Bethesda, Md., in June.
The Mayo Clinic team was also pleased to renew the sponsorship of the symposium, including the talk by David Thorburn, Ph.D., titled "Genetics and Next Generation Sequencing — What does it all mean to Mitochondrial Disease Patients and Families?"
2011 MitoAction Energy Walk
The Mitochondrial Disease Biobank sponsored the 2011 MitoAction Energy Walk, held in Boston, Mass., in Sept.
2011 Energy for Life Walkathon
The Mayo Clinic Mitochondrial Disease Biobank was a Leadership Sponsor of the 2011 Energy for Life Walkathon, held in Bloomington, Minn., in Sept.
2011 Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium
The Mayo Clinic staff supported the 2011 United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium, held in Schaumburg, Ill., in June As exhibitors at the conference, the team had the opportunity to meet participants and take biobank enrollments.
Mayo Clinic Marriott Symposium on Mitochondrial Medicine
The Mayo Clinic Mitochondrial Disease Biobank staff participated in the First Mayo Clinic Marriott Symposium on Mitochondrial Medicine, held in Rochester, Minn., in Nov. The meeting focused on the challenges of mitochondrial medicine. The keynote speaker was Doug Wallace, Ph.D., of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, a pioneer genetics researcher in the field of mitochondrial medicine.
2010 MitoAction Energy Walk
The team was pleased to attend the 2010 MitoAction Energy Walk, held at Castle Island in Boston, Mass., in Sept. MitoAction works with families affected by mitochondrial disorders to provide improved education, support, outreach and advocacy.
2010 Mitochondrial Medicine Symposium
The Mayo Clinic Mitochondrial Disease Biobank participated in the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation's annual symposium. The event, held in Scottsdale, Ariz., brought together researchers and physicians who specialize in mitochondrial disorders with individuals affected by these diseases. At the symposium, Devin Oglesbee, Ph.D., co-director of Mayo Clinic's Biochemical Genetics Laboratory and the Mayo Clinic Mitochondrial Disease Biobank, participated in the panel discussion "Hot Topics in Mitochondrial Disease."
In addition, with the help of phlebotomists from Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Biobank staff were able to provide Biobank enrollment at the conference.
If you would like to enroll in the biobank, please review eligibility criteria or contact the biobank.
