Michael Green, M.D., is a professor of medicine and humanities at Penn State College of Medicine, where he cares for patients, teaches medical students and conducts research on informed medical decision-making.

He is chair of the Hospital Ethics Committee, vice chair for research in the Department of Humanities and director of the Program in Bioethics. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois and completed residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University.

Dr. Green has published numerous articles and received many grant awards for his research, which most recently has focused on helping patients make informed decisions. He is the co-creator of "Making Your Wishes Known," an interactive computer-based decision aid that helps individuals be better prepared to make medical decisions when they can no longer speak for themselves.

Dr. Green is a founding organizer of several international conferences on comics and medicine and a member of the editorial collective of a forthcoming book series on graphic medicine from Penn State University Press.

He recently published a comic story in the Annals of Internal Medicine, which recounted a traumatic experience from medical training. He teaches a course on comics and medicine to fourth-year medical students, whose comics can be viewed online, and has published landmark articles on the use of comics in medicine.
