After graduating from college with a degree in biology, I felt uncertain about the exact career path I was destined to follow. My true passion was to work in the medical field, helping people.
Thankfully, through the help of a friend, I was introduced to the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program at Mayo Clinic. The program combined my interest in laboratory work with my desire to help people in the medical field.
From day one as a laboratory technician, it was evident the MLS Program had prepared me to become a professional and successful contributor in the laboratory. The program's curriculum instilled a strong base of background knowledge in addition to the necessary leadership and teamwork tools to perform at a high level.
The opportunity to rotate through many of Mayo Clinic's exceptional clinical laboratories was of true value to my technical skills, as well as understanding the overall function a clinical laboratory plays in the health care system. All of the challenges, experiences and technical skills obtained in the MLS Program have aided me to this day in my current role as a Technical Specialist.
Because of the program, I am able to work with experts in the field and help contribute to the work performed by the clinical laboratories. These opportunities would not have been possible without the Medical Laboratory Science Program at Mayo Clinic.
