Why I chose Mayo Clinic for residency training:
I chose to do a residency at Mayo Clinic because of the numerous opportunities provided to improve my clinical, research, and teaching skills. Residents are provided a wide array of rotations with a great deal of flexibility. Each rotation is staffed with a phenomenal multidisciplinary team that facilitates a positive learning environment. Due to Mayo Clinic's prestigious reputation, residents have the experience of caring for patients with a variety of disease states, from the rarest of the rare, to the most common diseases seen by healthcare practitioners. Another aspect of the program that interested me was the research program and the fantastic tools available, including statisticians and grant writing courses, to help each resident complete a successful and potentially publishable research project. Finally, I was drawn to the teaching opportunities to assist in precepting students on clerkship rotations and further develop my teaching skills.
