Arizona
The Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center in Arizona comprises more than 7,000 square feet of training space housed on the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses. Its 3,000-square-foot in-hospital facility allows health care team members to train during the day or before or after regular hours. The center is available to all members of the health care team. Training is team-based whenever possible.
Mayo Clinic's electronic medical record is deployed in all the simulation suites and available for training exercises. Medication dispensers are available in the operating room and outside the intensive care unit, creating a realistic environment for medication acquisition.
Ancillary equipment mimics the clinical practice and allows individuals and teams to practice scenarios in a life-like environment.
Two virtual reality trainers are available: A Simbionix laparoscopy mentor and a GI mentor deliver realistic procedure-based training, developing learner’s cognitive and motor skills.
Standarized patient actors have been trained and are available by request.
A curriculum menu has been developed for plug-and-play control of Laerdal manikins. Customizable curriculum also is available.
