Facilities
Mayo Clinic has one of the largest surgical suites in the nation with almost 100 operating rooms. Each year, Mayo Clinic surgeons perform nearly 30,000 surgical procedures at Saint Marys Hospital and 20,000 at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Nearly 200 surgeries are performed each day at the two facilities, both part of Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

The vast number and type of surgeries, in combination with a highly educated faculty, make Mayo Clinic an ideal educational setting for students in surgical training programs.

The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester comprises an extensive outpatient complex, two hospitals, and research and education facilities. It is among the largest, most advanced medical centers in the world.

Graduation and Certification
Upon successful completion of your Surgical Technology Program , you will graduate from your college, receiving your Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

You may obtain voluntary professional certification from the The National Board of Surgery Technology and Surgical Assisting by graduating from a CAAHEP-accredited program and passing a national certification examination. You then may use the designation Certified Surgical Technologist, or CST.

Continuing education or re-examination is required to maintain certification, which must be renewed every four years.

Hours
For the majority of the rotation, your learning schedule will include eight-hour days, five days per week.

Class Size
Each year, Mayo Clinic provides surgical training experiences for up to 40 students from the RCTC and NCTC Surgical Technology programs. Your surgical training rotation will provide a comprehensive educational experience with extensive one-on-one instruction.
