Program Description
Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) offers an 18-month Sonography program with campuses in Rochester, Minn., and Jacksonville, Fla. This program provides comprehensive clinical knowledge and skills that enable sonographers and vascular technologists to provide quality, comprehensive diagnostic procedures. Academic lectures originate primarily from the Rochester campus and are available to the Jacksonville students through a state-of-the-art, interactive video-enabled classroom. This system goes beyond traditional distance education and allows live, face-to-face collaboration between students and faculty.
Accreditation
The Sonography Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Mayo Clinic education programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.

Rochester, Minn. Campus
State-of-the-art sonography scanners are available at more than 85 scanning stations throughout the Mayo Clinic complex in Rochester. In 2005, Mayo staff in Rochester performed nearly 95,000 sonographic and vascular procedures.
The Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester comprises an extensive outpatient complex, two hospitals, and research and education facilities. It is among the largest, most advanced medical centers in the world.
Jacksonville, Fla. Campus
State-of-the-art sonography scanners are available throughout Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. In 2005, Mayo staff in Jacksonville performed more than 35,000 sonographic and vascular procedures.
Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville was established in 1986 as a comprehensive medical facility in the southeastern United States, where advanced programs in education and research support the highest quality patient care. In 2008 Mayo Clinic Jacksonville will open a modern, 214 bed, private hospital, on campus.
Both campuses have modern education facilities, including classrooms, lecture halls, extensive libraries and computer labs.
Mayo Clinic is the first and largest integrated group practice in the world incorporating the value "the needs of the patient come first." Teams of medical professionals work in concert to diagnose, treat and heal complex medical conditions. More than 2,500 physicians and scientists and 42,000 allied health staff work at the original clinic in Rochester, Minn. Each of our newer clinics in Florida and Arizona have more than 300 physicians and scientists and 5,000 allied health staff. Collectively, the three clinics treat more than half a million patients each year.
Graduation and Certification
Students who complete the Sonography Program receive a Certificate of Completion from Mayo School of Health Sciences. Upon completing the program, students are required to take the appropriate professional certification examinations given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Graduates who remain at Mayo Clinic as employees may be eligible for tuition assistance in completing a Bachelor of Science degree.
Hours
For the majority of the program, your learning schedule will include eight-hour days, five days per week.
Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits up to 12 students into its Sonography Program.Ten student positions are located at the Rochester, Minn., campus and two are located at the Jacksonville, Fla., campus.
