Positions
One or two candidates are selected for the spring, summer and fall semesters for the Recreational Therapy Internship on competitive basis. The program begins the first week of the semester.
How to Apply
Your application and all supporting documentation can be submitted for consideration up to six months before the internship begins.
Step 1: Complete the Apply Yourself online application:
After you sign-in to the Apply Yourself tool, please select Application for Admission.
Step 2: Submit the following required items:
- Goal statement
- A copy of all college and/or university transcripts.
- Three letters of recommendation.
Step 3: Personal visits with select MSHS Recreational Therapy staff and faculty will give you an opportunity to learn more about the Recreational Therapy Program and internship responsibilities.
Step 4: No interviews are held for internship positions. However, the Recreational Therapy Program director, along with recreational therapy program staff, review potential applicant’s material and select students from an affiliated university or college based on the following criteria:
- Academics (i.e., relating to therapeutic recreation core courses, related
courses and electives).
- A fully completed application with all requested materials (i.e., application, resume, letters of recommendation, goal statement form, academic records, health information, etc.).
- An interest primarily in rehabilitation (more so than long-term care or community-based recreational therapy).
- Volunteer and work-related experiences in the field of therapeutic recreation.
- Goal statement.
- Letters of recommendation that document skills helpful in organization, leadership, communication, documentation, recreational therapy, etc.
Step 5: When all applicant files are completed and reviewed, they are rank ordered and one internship position is offered for each spring, summer and fall semester. |
