Individuals selected to participate in the clinic outpatient pharmacy internship program will have the opportunity to experience the unique practice of each outpatient pharmacy located on the Mayo Clinic-Rochester campus.  The program provides a variety of experiences, including:

  • Providing patient counseling on medication
  • Assignment to a pharmacist preceptor to gain hands-on experience with reviewing doctors’ orders, entering orders and participating in pharmacists’ interventions.
  • Providing drug information to health care providers and medical writers
  • Participating in the specialty care pharmacy practices (i.e. kidney or liver transplant, hepatitis C)
  • Exploring opportunities available in pharmacy management
  • Exposure to the role of a pharmacist in outpatient research programs
  • Training in the pharmacy compounding department
  • Preparing a presentation for staff pharmacists on a topic related to outpatient pharmacy

Didactic Training
As an outpatient pharmacy intern, you will participate in discussions related to topics listed in the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Intern Competency Manual.
