Clinical Training
The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program consists of comprehensive practice training utilizing the ASHP Residency Learning System (RLS) to focus on learning and ensure goal achievement. Required areas of instruction are: Medical Critical Care, Nutrition Support Services, Surgical Critical Care, Transplant Acute Care, Transplant Critical Care and Pharmaceutical Investigation.
Acute Patient Care
As a member of the Mayo Clinic health care team working with specialty pharmacist practitioners, you will design, recommend, monitor and evaluate patient-specific therapeutic regimens that incorporate the principles of evidence-based medicine. Through practice coverage, you have the opportunity to refine your skills in providing total pharmaceutical care for your patients. Additionally, you will develop the skills necessary to function as an independent, confident critical care practitioner. You will provide practice coverage during your rotations at the direction of your preceptor and will be scheduled every fourth weekend for inpatient care.
Pharmaceutical Investigation
You will be required to complete a research project. The project may be original research or development, enhancement or evaluation of some aspect of critical care pharmacy practice operation and delivery of services for patient care. A critical care faculty member will serve as your Resident Research Associate to guide you. Your research will be presented on national, regional and local levels during the residency year. Upon completion, your research will be drafted in a manuscript of publishable quality. Submission for publication is highly encouraged.

Evaluation
Goals and objectives for PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident training have been established and rotation activities selected so you will have a clear understanding of learning and performance expectations. The Residency Learning System (RLS) is used to provide ongoing feedback to assist with the development of your skills to ensure you meet the goals established.
