Program Description
Physician Assistants (P.A.s) who have completed their baccalaureate or master's program and internship may complete a specialty Otolaryngology Physician Assistant Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. This is the only civilian fellowship offered in the United States for physician assistants who wish to specialize in Otolaryngology.

This fellowship provides comprehensive Otolaryngology and head and neck surgery training for physician assistants. You will receive the hands-on clinical experience you need in a health-care setting that offers a diverse patient population and a team-oriented collegial environment.

Facilities
Mayo Clinic in Arizona opened in 1987 as a premiere academic medical center in the southwestern United States, where advanced programs in medical research and education support the highest-quality patient care.

The Phoenix Campus is centered around a beautiful four-story outpatient clinic. Services in more than 66 medical and surgical disciplines are provided, including programs in cancer treatment and organ transplantation.

The Scottsdale Campus offers excellent education facilities, including classrooms, lecture halls, an extensive library and computer lab. The Samuel C. Johnson Research Center, a 75,000-square-foot building, houses scientists, trainees and students focused on molecular genetics, molecular immunology, molecular and cell biology, molecular chemistry and surgical research.

On the Phoenix Campus, the state-of-the-art 205-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital, which opened in 1998, is the first hospital entirely designed and built by Mayo. It has been recognized as "the Best Hospital in Phoenix" several times by Phoenix magazine.

The Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona provides evaluation, management and surgical services for problems pertaining to the ear, nose and sinus, head and neck.

Diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients include evaluation of voice disorders, fiber optic upper aerodigestive system examination, video laryngoscopy, sinus endoscopy, reconstructive and cosmetic facial surgery consultation and screening for tumors of the head and neck.

Diagnostic services in regard to ear diseases and balance disorders include electronystagmography, posturography, brainstem-evoked response testing and clinical audiology.

Graduation and Certification
After completing your fellowship and summative examination, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Mayo School of Health Sciences, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

Hours
For the majority of the fellowship, your learning schedule will include ten-hour days, five days per week. You will take shared ENT call an average of eight times per month.

Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits one student in its Otolaryngology Physician Assistant Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational experience with close one-on-one instruction.
