The Otolaryngology Physician Assistant Fellowship is a comprehensive 52-week program in which you will evaluate and treat the full gamut of outpatient head and neck problems. In addition, you will:

  • Perform minor office procedures
  • Serve as First Assistant in major head and neck procedures
  • Coordinate admissions and inpatient care
  • Assist with on-call responsibilities

    - Vertigo/balance
    - Facial Nerve

  • Nasal/Sinus pathology
    - Trauma
    - Epistaxis
    - Infections and treatment
    - Tumor detection
  • Pharynx/Oral cavity pathology
    - Infections and treatment
    - Tumor detection
    - Odontogenic pathology
  • Salivary Gland pathology
    - Infections and treatment
    - Tumor detection
  • Laryngeal pathology

Grading or Evaluation
Evaluation of your performance in each rotation includes the preceptor(s) ongoing evaluation of clinical performance, written midterm examination and, where appropriate and possible, a site visit by program faculty.

Successful completion of all clinical rotations, program seminars, formal presentations, activities and the program mid-term and preparation of an academic paper is required for graduation.

Mayo School of Health Sciences uses evaluative tools that include:

Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive look at individual performance, allowing students who are experiencing academic difficulty to be directed to appropriate support resources, including tutoring programs and counseling opportunities.
