Program Description
The Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) at Mayo Clinic in Arizona
offers diverse and challenging clinical experiences to nurse practitioner
students enrolled in a Mayo Clinic-affiliated master’s-level
nursing program.
Your college or university program director and the MSHS Nurse
Practitioner Internship program director will arrange your clinical
experiences.
The clinicals are facilitated by Mayo Clinic professional nurse
practitioner staff and provide nurse practitioner students opportunities
to work alongside other professionals in a multidisciplinary health-care
environment.
Students will observe and experience the delivery of patient care
in a comprehensive health-care center that offers:

with a commitment to mutual respect
Accreditation
Your college or university maintains accreditation for its nurse
practitioner program and can provide more information on program

Facilities
Your clinical internship will take place at Mayo Clinic Arizona. Inpatient experiences are at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Phoenix Campus; outpatient roations are at Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale Campus.
Mayo Clinic in Arizona opened in 1987 as a premiere academic medical center in the southwestern United States, where advanced programs in medical research and education support the highest-quality patient care.
Scottsdale Campus is centered around a beautiful five-story outpatient clinic. This modern facility contains 240 exam rooms, an outpatient surgery center equipped for general anesthesia, a full-service laboratory, a pharmacy, a patient-education library, an endoscopy suite and a 188-seat auditorium for patient, staff and student education programs. Services in more than 66 medical and surgical disciplines are provided, including programs in cancer treatment and organ transplantation.
The Scottsdale Campus offers excellent education facilities, including classrooms, lecture halls, an extensive library and computer lab. The Samuel C. Johnson Research Center, a 75,000-square-foot building, houses scientists, trainees and students focused on molecular genetics, molecular immunology, molecular and cell biology, molecular chemistry and surgical research.
On the Phoenix Campus, the state-of-the-art 205-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital, which opened in 1998, is the first hospital entirely designed and built by Mayo. It has been recognized as "the Best Hospital in Phoenix" several times by Phoenix magazine.
Graduation and Certification
When you successfully complete the master's degree in nursing criteria
and the nurse practitioner course work at your affiliate
school, you are eligible to apply for the American Nurses Credentialing
Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners national certification
examination as either an adult/acute or family
nurse practitioner.
Hours
Recommended learning schedule will include eight-hour days, at least
two consecutive days per week.
Nurse Practitioner students interested in doing a cardiology rotation must commit to two consecutive days per week, 8 hour days, for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits up to six students
in its Nurse Practitioner Internship at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.
This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational experience
with close one-on-one instruction.
