Program Description
The Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville offers diverse and challenging clinical experiences to nurse practitioner students enrolled in a Mayo Clinic-affiliated master’s-level nursing program.
Your college or university program director and the MSHS Nurse Practitioner Internship program director will arrange your clinical experiences.
The clinical rotations are facilitated by Mayo Clinic professional nurse practitioner staff and provide nurse practitioner students opportunities to work alongside other professionals in a multidisciplinary health care environment.
Students will observe and experience the delivery of patient care in a comprehensive health care center that offers:

Facilities
The education site for this internship is St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., part of Mayo Clinic. St. Luke’s Hospital is a modern 289-bed facility with 19 surgical suites; an ICU; a bone marrow transplant unit; kidney, heart, liver, lung and pancreas transplant programs; an epilepsy unit; two cardiac catheterization laboratories; and a stereotactic neurosurgery suite.
More than 14,000 patients are admitted to St. Luke’s each year. The emergency room treats nearly 34,000 patients annually. The current hospital facility was completed in 1985, but St. Luke’s Hospital is the oldest hospital in Florida. This hospital has been part of Mayo Clinic since 1987.
Graduation and Certification
When you successfully complete the criteria for master’s degree in nursing and the nurse practitioner course work at your affiliate school, you are eligible to apply to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners national certification examination as either an adult/acute or family nurse practitioner.
Hours
The recommended learning schedule includes eight-hour days, at least two consecutive days per week.
Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits up to six students in its Nurse Practitioner Internship at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. This ensures you will receive a comprehensive educational experience with one-on-one instruction.
