The Mayo School of Health Sciences’ Endoscopy Nurse (R.N.)
Program follows the curriculum from the Society of Gastroenterology
Nurses and Associates’ Gastroenterology
Nursing: A Core Curriculum.
Training topics include the responsibilities of the endoscopic
nurse in the following areas:
- Pre-procedure care
- Procedural (including providing moderate sedation)
- Technical (assisting the physician during the
procedure)
- Processing (cleaning and post-procedure responsibilities)
- Recovery
Your training will include approximately 80 hours classroom time
and more than 200 clinical hours in the clinical/hospital setting,
rotating through the roles in endoscopy procedure and patient care.
You will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical
technologists and other surgical team members to provide individualized
care to patients undergoing endoscopies.
Grading or Evaluation
Mayo School of Health Sciences uses evaluative tools that include:
- Written examination
- Demonstration of skills
- Self-assessment exercises
- Faculty reviews
Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive
look at individual performance, allowing students who are experiencing
academic difficulty to be directed to appropriate support resources,
including tutoring programs and counseling opportunities.
