Advanced standing for the CRNA Degree Completion Program is granted for individuals who possess valid and current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) licensure. In either case, the master’s program must be completed within seven years, beginning with the oldest work listed on your transcript.

As a Master of Nurse Anesthesia Program student, you will receive education and experiences in:

  • Basic and clinical anesthesia sciences **
  • Anesthesia management and education studies
  • Investigational theory
  • A wide variety of required and advanced clinical experience **

**Only selected courses in these areas are required for CRNA Degree Completion Students.

The academic portion of the traditional program totals 66 didactic semester credits. The clinical experience stresses cognitive processing, problem solving and proficiency in psychomotor skills. Off-Site Rotations
Traditional 30-month program students who are in good standing, academically and clinically, will be required to rotate off-campus for an eight-week period. This rotation provides both regional anesthesia experience and clinical experience in a smaller, community-based environment. Currently, students rotate to either Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., Mayo Health System practices in either Albert Lea, Austin, or Fairmont, Minn, or a hospital in Carroll, Iowa.

The eight-week off-campus rotation takes place during the last 12 months of the program. Mayo Clinic funds the authorized additional travel and housing costs.

Grading or Evaluation
Mayo School of Health Sciences uses evaluative tools that include:

  • Written examination
  • Demonstration of skills
  • Class presentations
  • Referenced papers
  • Self-assessment exercises
  • Faculty reviews

Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive look at individual performance, allowing students who are experiencing academic difficulty to be directed to appropriate support resources, including tutoring programs and counseling opportunities. Grades are based on a percentage. A score below 70 percent will result in a failing grade.

Curriculum Enhancement
Mayo School of Health Sciences is committed to developing and maintaining the very best education programs. Changes may be made to the curriculum and other aspects of this program as necessary to assure the highest-quality training.
