Program Description
The Clinical Laboratory Science Program is for students who have already completed their bachelor's degree but still seek clinical laboratory training and certification (4+1 years). Students perform their training in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic.

4+1 Program
Students enrolled in the 4+1 track of the clinical laboratory science certificate program will complete 12 months of didactic courses and clinical laboratory rotations in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic. Please note: Eight months of didactic courses and clinical laboratory rotations are completed at Mayo Clinic Rochester campus and the remaining four months at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville campus.

Accreditation
Mayo School of Health Sciences' Clinical Laboratory Science Program is currently awaiting accreditation by The National Accrediting Association of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Facilities
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is an integrated laboratory, servicing hospital and group practice patient populations.  Mayo Clinic Jacksonville performs more than 3 million tests per year.

A highly skilled team of pathologists, physicians, scientists, clinical laboratory scientists, and clinical laboratory technicians perform lab work. The department receives patient specimens for testing from Mayo Clinic as well as other hospitals and clinics.
The wide repertoire of test services, the high volume of specimens received for testing, and the diverse and highly educated faculty makes the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic an ideal educational setting for students in clinical laboratory science training programs.

Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research, which support the highest-quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted around the Mayo Clinic hospital and interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.

The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.

Graduation and Certification
Upon successful completion of your Clinical Laboratory Science Program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Mayo School of Health Sciences.

After graduation you will be eligible to sit for one of the national certification exams through ASCP, AMT, AAB or NCA.  Once you have passed the certification exam, and you wish to seek employment in the state of Florida, you are eligible to apply for state licensure through the Florida Department of Health.  Other states may not require a certification or state licensure to work in a clinical laboratory.

Hours
For the first six months of the program, your learning schedule will include four-hour days, five days per week, with an average of four to six hours of homework per day. The last six months, your learning schedule will include eight-hour days, five days a week.

Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits up to 5 students to its Clinical Laboratory Science Program.  During the program you will receive a comprehensive educational experience with one-on-one instruction.
