Program Description
The Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Internship Program at Mayo Clinic in Arizona allows students the opportunity to gain practical experience in subjects previously learned in the academic setting. Students rotate through laboratory sections working closely with experienced laboratory professionals performing complex and varied laboratory analyses, and use critical thinking skills in determining the accuracy and validity of test results. Through the use of precision instrumentation, students analyze tissue, blood and other fluids of the human body to provide data critical to disease diagnosis. Clinical instruction includes routine and specialized test procedures in the areas of microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology and urinalysis during rotations of specified durations.
CLS clinical practice rotations are available only to students who are enrolled in an affiliated academic institution.
Affiliated institution(s)
To participate in the Clinical Laboratory Science Internship Program, students are concurrently enrolled in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Professional Study Program at Arizona State University (ASU). When eligible, ASU students are assigned clinical specialty rotations lasting up to five weeks. Rotations are often split among several affiliated clinical laboratories in the Phoenix area.

Widely accepted by employers in the health industry, certification is a prerequisite for most jobs and often is necessary for advancement.
Hours
For the majority of the internship, your learning schedule will include eight-hour days, five days per week.
