Important Notice to 2010 Applicants: The Dietetic Internship has been approved for major program changes for classes beginning 2010.
The program will be 8 months comprised of:
- 20 weeks clinical
- 8 weeks Food Service
- 3 weeks community
- 1 week management
- 1 week research
- 1 week vacation break
- Number of classes
- There will be two classes beginning in January and July each year. The classes will be computer matched in November and April for the January and July spots respectively.
- Number of interns
- Each class will have a maximum of 3 interns
- Cost of program
- The program cost will be $7,000. This amount breaks out to $6,750 tuition and $250 activity fee.
- Program emphasis
- The program emphasis will be clinical.
Program Description
Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) offers an eight-month Dietetics Internship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida providing comprehensive knowledge and skills that enable practitioners to provide complete nutrition services.
The mission of Mayo Clinic’s Dietetics Internship is to provide a program of excellence that prepares generalist dietitians with competencies required for entry-level positions in a variety of dietetic practice settings.
Program Goals
- The DI Program will prepare entry-level registered dietitians.
- The DI Program’s graduates who seek employment will be employed in a variety of settings within three months of graduation.
- The DI Program will provide a high quality education and supervised training experience.
- The DI graduates will make contributions to the professional community and demonstrate leadership roles.

The Dietetics Internship offered by Mayo Clinic Jacksonville is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association.

Facilities
Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research, which support the highest-quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted around the Mayo Clinic hospital and interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.
The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.
Graduation and Certification
Upon successful completion of 1320 supervised practice hours, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from College of Medicine, Mayo School of Health Sciences, and a verification statement that allows you to take the registration exam.
Graduates are eligible to take the professional registration examination given by the American Dietetic Association. Since 2004, 93 percent of Jacksonville’s graduates have passed the ADA registry exam on the first attempt.
Hours
For the majority of the internship, your learning schedule will include Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. Hours will vary with rotation.
Class Size
Each year, Mayo School of Health Sciences admits six students to its Dietetics Internship Program at Mayo Clinic Florida. This ensures you will receive one-on-one instruction and a comprehensive educational experience.
